A toddler might sit on Dad's shoulders.
Three little ones might sit along a railing.
Mom might sit down with the children.
Dad might gather everyone around him.
A child might be asked to find something, walk somewhere or interact with a sibling.
Those little actions give children something to do rather than constantly asking them to perform for the camera.
And in between those moments, I'll bring everyone back together for the more traditional portraits.
You get both.
The Best Family Photographs Aren't Always Everyone Looking at the Camera
Of course I want the photograph where everyone is together and looking toward me.
We are going to work for that one.
But I don't want that to be the only photograph that tells your family's story.
I want Dad looking down at his child.
I want Mom holding the baby.
I want siblings investigating something together.
I want the photograph of your toddler's face when he's completely forgotten there's a photographer standing nearby.
I want the little bare feet.
The baby expressions.
The chaos.
And I absolutely want the photograph where Mom and Dad are loving on that new baby while the older children are somewhere nearby doing whatever toddlers have decided is more important. 😂
Those photographs become incredibly valuable as children grow.
What If My Child Has a Meltdown During Our Family Photo Session?
Then we deal with it.
Seriously.
Toddlers cry.
Babies need to eat.
Someone decides they hate their shoes.
A three-year-old suddenly has very strong opinions about something nobody knew mattered five minutes earlier.
None of that means your session has failed.
One of the benefits of hiring an experienced family photographer is that I'm not surprised by normal child behavior.
We'll redirect.

We'll change what we're doing.
We'll let them move.

And most importantly, put young children in something they can actually move in.
